Best video game collaborations

As the gaming industry has greatly evolved, it became apparent that one of the best ways to keep the game community engaged is to provide a constant stream of new content. This is done by consistent free updates, DLCs, or by working with other game series and brands. Video game collaborations have grown in popularity over the last year as they are a great way to allow players to enjoy both IPs at once. Some games even use collaborations as a method to stay relevant while others agree to work together to bring something yet unseen to their communities. Tens of video game collaborations have already happened and these are the best ones, in no particular order.

Super Mario smartwatch

The limited-edition $2150 version of the Tag Heyer Connected watch features bold red accents reminding of Mario’s bright red outfit. There also are details around the rim, showing various icons from the series. Yet the main accent is unique animations of Wear OS – that includes Mario powering with a mushroom, grabbing a star, dancing on a level-ending flagpole, and others. Certainly, a watch for all Super Mario series fans out there! Oh, and it also allows to track various fitness goals – thus motivating to build glutes that would not bring shame to Mario himself.

MLK exhibition in Fortnite

Over the years and dozens of various collaborations with movies, books, games, artists, and others, Fortnite did not shy away from taking different tact either. Partnered with Time magazine’s March Through Time, the game recreated Martin Luther King’s famous 1963 civil rights movement speech. It took place in a custom map built by selected Fortnite Creative builders. Players were able to visit a virtual version of the Lincoln Memorial and United States National Mall to spectate the recording of the speech. Besides that, an informative museum covering the civil rights movement of the 60s was built. It was meant to educate the game’s younger player base. Being a battle royale game, Fortnite may look like an odd choice for a such event but its massive reach allowed for unimaginably high exposure.

Nike PG 2.5 X PlayStation

While not exactly a video game collaboration, these sneakers just look amazing in the original Playstation console colors. Seeming somewhat dull at first, they are packed with details – small colored accents and tiny PlayStation icons on the sides. This is surely a nostalgic collaboration that not only reminds us of older gaming consoles but also looks incredibly well!

Naruto x Fortnite

The most popular anime collab with one of the biggest games in the industry is surely something that many expected yet did not believe to happen. Released during Chapter 2’s 8th season, the Naruto set introduced various characters and items from the series. Both introducing the younger players to the older anime (Naruto aired from 2002 to 2007) and alluring older generation gamers into trying out Fortnite, this collaboration surely was well worth the wait. Yet this is only one of the tens of crossovers Fortnite has had – the game also worked with Siped-Man, Rick&Morty, Star Wars, and other franchises to keep the player base entertained.

Super Smash Bros series

SSB series by itself is already a collaboration, featuring various characters from different Nintendo franchises as well as third-party ones. While they may not be the most exciting ones, it is the continuity that makes SSB’s new collaborations so appealing. Even the Doom Slayer got into the Smash!
